Two Modern Gypsies

Gorges du Verdon

Alpes de Haute Provence – Gorges du Verdon

Our idea was first to find a campsite near Gorges du Verdon and stay here for the whole week. After watching the weather forecast and taking the fact that a lot of the campsites are closed now, we decided to go for a day trip from Nice instead. Gorges du Verdon is worth every second you spend there. The nature is wild and breathtaking and the mountains so picturesque.

Gorges du Verdon is a river canyon in the Parc Naturel Régional in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. This river canyon is often considered to be one of the most beautiful canyons of Europe. Very understandable after seeing it live. It is also very popular among rock climbers, especially for climbers who like multi-pitch routes. The river Verdon is also a stunning sight with it’s turquoise water surrounded by powerful rocks. Among the hundreds of paths to hike you can find the famous Blanc-Martel trail. It’s 14 km long and takes around 6-7 hours. The trek goes from one point to another so you need to get back to the parking (if you come by car). We didn’t do the whole trek because we had to drive back to Nice in the afternoon. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful drive in the National Park and 5 hours hike on the Blanc-Martel trail.

We’ll definitely come back to Gorges du Verdon sometime to climb. Maybe already during the spring/summer on our trip back to Norway.

Sentier Blanc-Martel Trail

We started our hike at the Blanc-Martel trail from Chalet de la Maline.

The water in the river is very low at this point
